Leo Alves – Savarese Jiu Jitsu prodigy

Congrats to Leo Alves on earning the 3rd stripe on his orangebelt from Professor Savarese this weekend. Leo is the Academy prodigy, the kid the whole Academy keeps an eye on to make sure he is doing things right. I have never seen a 15 yr old w/ his skill, he is destined for great things and has World Champion written all over him if he keeps his head on straight. He has a great attitude not seen in teenagers these days and makes no excuses (our Academy motto). He is the kid who will ride his bike in the snow to come to class, shovel for his neighbors to earn $ to go to seminars, I just simply love everything about this kid. A room full of people feel the same and are ready w/ an ass-kicking if he changes. (But a warning my friends, get them in now because when he’s 18-19 yrs old, nobody will be able to touch him.) Congrats Leo, keep up the great work!

Savarese Jiu Jitsu, Lyndhurst NJ

The martial arts style we teach was developed in the 1920s by Carlos and Helio Gracie, 2 brothers who modified the techniques of Judo to make them easier for even a small or weak person to complete successfully. This is what makes Brazilian or Gracie Jiu-Jitsu so powerful: It provides an advantage to women, children, the elderly and anyone else who might face a stronger and larger opponent.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a practical martial art that can be applied to real combat situations. If you are attacked by a mugger, a bully, a rapist or anyone else looking to do harm, you can neutralize the threat with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Classes for Adults and Children

We offer our classes for students of all ages. Among adults, our program provides practical techniques for avoiding altercations and neutralizing threats, including how to gain the upper hand in a fight with an armed opponent. Our children’s program has a special focus on bully prevention, addressing the circumstances that lead to bullying and how to neutralize the situation before it gets physical.

Unlike other martial arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is non-confrontational: Ours is primarily a defensive art and is used for self-protection, not aggression. This makes it a very popular choice for parents who wish to provide their children with self-discipline and the ability to protect themselves.
